OCC Softball Lands 1st Win of Season in Day 2 at Ripken Experience

Toms River, NJ - OCC Softball (1-3) played 2 games today (3/9) at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, SC, picking up their 1st win of the season in the first, and mounting a major comeback in the second while just falling short.

GAME 1 - The Vikings nabbed their 1st win of the season with a dominant, 16-0 shutout against Grand Rapids Community College. Freshman pitcher Hailey Dries pitched a 5-inning shutout, while sophomores Shea Branda and Morgan Felger supplied the offensive fireworks, with Branda batting 3-4 with a double and a triple, and Felger also going 3-4 while scoring 2 runs.

GAME 2 - In their second meeting in as many days, Ocean were again topped by Henry Ford CC. The Vikings' battled back from a 13-1 deficit, but ultimately lost by an 18-9 final score. Sophomore Monica Brignola hit 3-4 with 2 runs scored, while freshman Sam Lanzano batted 3-4 with a double and a home run. Sophomore Shea Branda continued her strong performance at the plate, blasting her first home run of the season in the loss. 

The Vikings return to action tomorrow (3/10) at 1 p.m., when they take on USC Union, and finish the day with a 3 p.m. matchup against USC Sumter.
