Jordan Viggiano Named Female Athlete of the Year at 36th Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day
Toms River, NJ - Jordan Viggiano was named “Female Athlete of the Year” for Ocean County College by the Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) and the New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (NJAIAW) at the 36th Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day, celebrated virtually on February 2nd. Viggiano, a two-sport OCC student-athlete who competes in Women’s Soccer and Women’s Basketball, earned both NJCAA All-Region XIX and All-Garden State Athletic Conference Team honors in her 1st year of Women’s Soccer, and is currently nationally-ranked in points-per-game and total points scored in Women’s Basketball.
“Being a collegiate athlete has been amazing,” reflected Viggiano. “It has made such a positive impact on my life. I fell back in love with sports and I have so much fun playing. It has also made me many new friends. To me, being an athlete means working hard and dedication, but also having fun playing the sport/sports that you love. I am very blessed to have been given the talents and mindset to be able to compete and do well at this level.”
“Jordan is dedicated to improving her skills every day with each practice and game,” stated OCC Women’s Basketball Head Coach Megan Steinberg. “She’s an asset to her teammates both on and off the court, with her talent and attitude.”
The National Girls and Women in Sports Awards recognize outstanding student-athletes throughout New Jersey who have made significant contributions to their institution and community through athletic accomplishments, academic success, and community involvement.
“Jordan is a great student-athlete in both senses of the term,” remarked OCC Executive Director of Athletics Ilene Cohen. “I can’t wait to see what she goes on to achieve in the future.”
Congratulations to Jordan for receiving this prestigious recognition.
