Ocean falls to Salem in NJCAA Region 19 Postseason, 80-60
Toms River, NJ - The #8 ranked Ocean County College men's basketball team fell to #1 seed (and nationally-ranked #1) Salem Community College, 80-60 on Thursday (2/26).
Along with seeking to advance to the final round of the NJCAA Region 19 championship tournament, the Vikings were looking for their first win of the season against the powerhouse Mighty Oaks, who'd won their two regular season matchups. Ocean was red hot in the first half, leading Salem by a point as the first 20 minutes came to a close, but were unable to maintain their intensity as the matchup wore on.
Ocean sophomores Jamari Smith (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat H.S.) and Myles Marabuto (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Township H.S.) led the Vikings' offensive effort, scoring 16 points each, with Smith pulling in 10 rebounds with 3 assists and 3 steals, and Marabuto 4 assists and 3 steals, while freshman Aiden Sosinov (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan H.S.) scored 11 points and brought in 10 rebounds in the tough loss.
The Vikings have now advanced to the Region 19 postseason for the third time in their last four seasons, and finish their 2026 campaign with an overall regular/postseason record of 16-13.
