Toms River, NJ - The Ocean County College Vikings golf team continued their strong start to their 2026 season on Monday (4/6) with a fine fourth place team finish at Union College of NJ's annual golf tournament at Galloping Hill Golf Course in Kenilworth, NJ. Ocean freshman Aaron Palmer (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) led the Vikings with a top five finish of 82, chipping in for a birdie, with fellow first year starters Mason Krey (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat H.S.) and Cole Hinton (Manchester, NJ/Manchester H.S.) contributing with two more rounds in the 80s (87 and 88, respectively).
Team captains
Maxx Agnello (
Lacey, NJ/Central Regional H.S.) and
Danny Sicknick (
Lacey, NJ/Lacey Township H.S.), Talan Grande, and first year golfer
Ryan Lehrach (
Brick, NJ/Brick Township H.S.) also participated. "It was pretty tough going out there, but we pushed through," said OCC Head Coach Sean Fawcett.
RCSJ Cumberland won today's team event, carding a four man total of 331, while Ocean shot 348, a total just five strokes off from their season opening 343 total at Seaview Bay.
"We're way more capable of shooting lower scores, and we will, but to tee off our season with back-to-back rounds under 350, is really pretty good," Coach Fawcett remarked. "Aaron had a very good day in particular, posting his first top five finish in just his second outing. We'll look to do better in our next two events next week, Monday at Pitman, and Wednesday's key rehearsal to April 28's GSAC Championship at County College of Morris' Flanders Valley Golf Course."
