Schmidt with Double-Double in Women's Basketball's Loss at Camden, 70-32
Toms River, NJ - Ocean County College Women's Basketball struggled in their 2025 season opener on Thursday (11/6), falling to host Camden County College by a 70-32 final score.
The Vikings attempted to battle back from a 34-11 deficit following the first 20 minutes of play, but were ultimately unable to overcome the Cougars' balanced attack.
Ocean sophomore guard Brooke Schmidt continued the consistent play that marked her first season on the Vikings, with an impressive 17 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 steals in the loss, while freshman D'Anna Capriotti impressed with 8 rebounds, and sophomore Tatiana Hernandez contributed 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals.
Ocean County College Women's Basketball Head Coach Sarah Porter was optimistic following the defeat: "Tatiana stepped up in a new leadership role, taking charge alongside Brooke, who continued to make her presence known in the paint. Capriotti battled hard down low, securing key rebounds that kept us in striking distance. Our newcomers Lola Darcy and Alyssa Padilla impressed with smart assists and confident plays, while Regan Ottinger and Marian Moore — both brand new to the game — brought incredible energy, positivity, and effort every second they were on (and off) the floor."
"This group is one to watch as they build chemistry, find their rhythm, and continue to grow together," Coach Porter continued. "The first-game dust is off — now it's back to the lab, back to work, and onward to next week."
OCC Women's Basketball returns to the court this Tuesday, November 11, when they travel to Passaic County CC for a 5pm Region 19 matchup against the Panthers.
