Women's Basketball Wins 3rd Straight, Stuns Brookdale CC, 58-53
Toms River, NJ - OCC Women's Basketball is heating up! The Vikings (4-13) upset Brookdale CC (9-9), 58-53 on Saturday, marking their 3rd straight win.
This matchup was a battle from the start, with the Vikings and Jersey Blues trading leads, and Brookdale taking a 31-24 lead into the half. Ocean emerged for the third quarter a team reborn, punishing the Blues 20-8 in the 10 minute frame, and forcing their opponent to settle for first looks through most of the fourth quarter, employing a devastating defensive effort led by freshman forward Regan Ottinger (Brick, NJ/Wall H.S.), who brought down a personal best 21 rebounds. Ottinger has played no small part in Ocean's recent successes, having posted double-digit boards in Ocean's last 4 contests. The Vikings' dynamic duo of Lola Darcy (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Boro H.S.) and Brooke Schmidt (Lacey, NJ/Lacey H.S.) led the offensive charge for Ocean, with Darcy scoring 24 points and firing off 4 assists, while Schmidt dropped in 21 points with 13 rebounds and a season-high 6 steals in the thrilling win.
The Vikings will look for their 4th straight victory this Tuesday, when they travel to Bergen CC for a 5pm matchup against the Bulldogs.
